On December 4, 2024, CroAI hosted the final event of its project – a roundtable discussion titled "The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Education", held at the Hotel Westin in Zagreb. The event brought together over 100 participants, primarily educators, to explore the opportunities, challenges, and future of AI in schools.
The day began with the presentation of research findings conducted by CroAI in collaboration with experts Mitja Ružojčić and Antun Palanović from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. The research provided insights into educators' perspectives on AI, its applications, and the support needed to integrate it effectively into classrooms. With responses from over 800 participants, including 361 teachers, the findings highlighted both enthusiasm for AI and areas for improvement in knowledge and resources.
The roundtable discussion featured distinguished panelists:
Maja Ljubić Kutnjak, European Parliament Office in Croatia
dr.sc. Zrinka Ristić Dedić, Institute for Social Research
Vjera Barbir Alavanja, OŠ Ivana Gundulića
dr.sc. Robert Kopal, Effectus University College
Discussions focused on how AI can transform education by enabling personalized learning, automating repetitive tasks, and supporting students with special needs. Panelists emphasized that while AI is a powerful tool, the role of educators remains irreplaceable in fostering human connection and critical thinking.
This event marks the conclusion of the "AI se educiraj" project, carried out as part of Thematic Systemic Support from the National Foundation for Civil Society Development under the theme "Artificial Intelligence and Social Development." Over the past three months, CroAI delivered 14 workshops, conducted research, and engaged more than 2,700 educators across Croatia.
